501. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (J. K. Rowling)

Synopsis from Amazon Canada:
Harry is waiting in Privet Drive. The Order of the Phoenix is coming to escort him safely away without Voldemort and his supporters knowing -- if they can. But what will Harry do then? How can he fulfil the momentous and seemingly impossible task that Professor Dumbledore has left him with? Harry has been burdened with a dark and dangerous task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But Harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear or hesitation the inexorable path laid out for him ....

My rating: 5 stars

My review: SPOILERS AHEAD!!! Okay, now that you've reconciled yourself with knowing some details of the book ....

Was it worth the wait? The lack of sleep? The hype??? Yes. The questions and uncertainties from the previous books are neatly answered in this one. Is Snape really that evil? Why does Aunt Petunia dislike the wizarding world so much? Do Ron and Hermione live? DOES HARRY DIE??? All answered plus more. I've read some reviews which were disappointed by the whole book, the fact that the main characters survive, or didn't like the saccharine ending but these reviews were all written by people OVER THE AGE OF 12. At heart, the Harry Potter series is for children and I think killing a beloved character is a bit too traumatic for an eight-year old kid. The only criticism I have is one moment when Mrs. Weasley is battling Bellatrix which seems completely out of character. Otherwise, the book is brilliant and wonderfully completes the series.
