Synopsis from Amazon:In a weak moment Barrett Stanbridge agrees to go to the opera with his parents, but then decides to spend the night in with less high-brow company, much to his regret when the woman is found murdered the next day outside his house. Barrett is the only suspect until Isabella Dandaneu arrives at his London office. Cousin to the murder victim, she knows that Barrett isn't the killer, and is willing to testify to that after Barrett helps her find her cousin's half of a treasure map. Grudgingly Barrett agrees to help the intriguing Isabella. He finds the search for treasure that brought her from New Orleans to London farfetched, but as time goes on, the widow who survived the American Civil War becomes a temptation that he finds hard to resist, especially as they find themselves in danger.
